How do I get text from an image?

Add the photo or screenshot. The text is read straight away and appears in the box below, ready to copy or download as a .txt file.

Which languages can it read?

48 languages, among them English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Turkish and Swahili. Add a second language for documents that mix two.

Can it read a scanned PDF?

Yes. Pages that already contain text are read from the PDF itself, exactly; scanned pages are read as pictures. Up to 50 pages at a time.

How do I make a scanned PDF searchable?

Add the scanned PDF or photos and press Download searchable PDF when the text has been read. Each page looks exactly as before, with an invisible layer of text on top, so you can search, select and copy the words in any PDF reader.

Why are some words wrong?

Text is read best from a sharp, straight, well-lit photo. Blurry, tilted or handwritten text is harder. Straighten a tilted photo with Scan document first, and check the language.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The text is read in your browser. The language model is downloaded once from our site and kept in your browser; your files never reach our server.
