HOW IT WORKS

Unlock PDF in three steps

  1. Add the PDF

Choose or drop one or more PDFs. Each is checked at once: already unlocked, only restricted, or locked.

  2. Type the password

Only when a PDF needs one to open. PDFs that only block printing or copying are unlocked without one.

  3. Download

The copy opens without a password, and printing and copying work again. Text, images, links, bookmarks and forms stay as they were.

Get in touch
How do I remove a password from a PDF?

Add the PDF. If it asks for a password to open, type that password and press Unlock PDF. You get a copy that opens without asking for it.

My PDF opens but will not print or copy. Can this help?

Yes. Many PDFs open without a password but block printing or copying. Add it and press Unlock PDF: no password is needed for these.

Can it unlock a PDF if I forgot the password?

No. A PDF that asks for a password to open is encrypted, and it can only be opened with that password. Nothing is guessed or cracked here.

Which kinds of protection can it remove?

The standard PDF password protection: AES-256, AES-128 and the older RC4 (40 and 128-bit), with passwords in any language. PDFs protected with a digital certificate instead of a password cannot be opened here, and the page says so.

Is anything lost when the password is removed?

No. The pages are not turned into pictures or compressed again: text stays searchable, and images, links, bookmarks, form fields and the document details are kept. A digitally signed PDF is pointed out, because rewriting it makes the signature show as no longer valid.

Is unlocking a PDF allowed?

Unlock only PDFs that are yours or that you have the right to open and use, such as your own statements, bills and forms.

Are my PDF and password uploaded?

No. The PDF is unlocked in your browser with qpdf; neither the file nor the password is sent to our server or stored. Closing the page clears them.
